At school the month of January has passed by quickly; in the following I will present some of the key points of the teaching this month and introduce some forthcoming events and themes. 

Tammikuu on hurahtanut ohi kuin varkain; seuraavassa käyn läpi tämän kuun opetusta pääpiirteittäin ja informoin tulevista vierailuista ja opetusteemoista.

With 1st graders the Fri mornings small group has been concentrating on ukuleles- the groups of 4 to 6 have learned the basics and first chord, C. With bigger groups the children 've been studying some basic theory- elements with the help of 5-string kanteles. The teaching is moving forward from basic I (mansikka) and V (mustikka) chords to more complex melody-lines with kanteles (fine motor skills).

This week we started our Finnish folk music period that will last until winter vacation. The weeks theme was sami-people and their music.

Ekaluokkalaiset ovat pienimmissä, 4-6 oppilaan aamuryhmissä saaneet ukulelen perusteet- opetusta, kun taas sitä seuraavien, hieman isompien ryhmien aikana olemme keskittyneet musiikin perusteisiin viisikielisen kanteleen avulla.

Tällä viikolla aloitimme hiihtolomaan asti jatkuvan suomen kansanmusiikin / perinteen jakson. Perjantaina teemana oli saamelaisuus ja saamelainen musiikki.

2nd graders have had the same theory basics with kanteles and as an addition to that an introduction to loops with garage band- application. This week we combined this two; the children were asked to select some percussion loop from the garage bands library and we played 'planeetta- laulu' with the suggested loops with kanteles.

Tokaluokkalaiset ovat tammikuun aikana opiskelleet musiikin perusteita kanteleiden avulla ja tutustuneet luuppeihin garage band- nimisen ohjelman avulla. Tällä viikolla yhdistimme nämä kaksi opittua asiaa ja oppilaiden tehtävänä oli etsiä heidän mielestään sopiva/hauska/mielenkiintoinen luuppi, jolla säestimme sitten kanteleella soittamaamme 'planeetta-laulua'.
